Sustainability

Learning Through Nature

At Wheelers Hill Childcare Centre, our commitment to sustainability is embedded in everything we do. We believe that fostering a love for nature starts early, and our goal is to nurture environmentally responsible citizens through daily hands-on learning.

Our sustainability practices are woven into both our curriculum and operations. From replacing paper towels with reusable hand towels and cloths, to composting food scraps and maintaining a thriving worm farm, we model and encourage sustainable choices every day. These initiatives not only reduce our environmental footprint but also teach children the value of caring for the world around them.

Children regularly take part in:

  • Composting and worm farming
  • Tending to our veggie patch
  • Reusing leftover water for plants
  • Creating art from recycled materials
  • Serving their own fruit to reduce food waste

Our Family Library

Our Family Library is another way we encourage sustainable practices, allowing families to borrow and donate pre-loved books—promoting both literacy and reuse. Through these meaningful experiences, children gain respect for the environment, develop lifelong eco-conscious habits, and learn that sustainability is a shared responsibility.

Our Sustainability Team

Our sustainability efforts at WHCC are proudly led by Rajani and Lorrae, who bring passion, care, and consistency to our eco-friendly practices. From composting and gardening to recycling and reusing, they guide our children and educators in developing lifelong respect for the environment. Their leadership helps embed sustainability into our daily routines and centre culture.
